Make Those Steps!
Did you know that walking just 7000 steps per day may reduce mortality risk? Moving your body every day in some way, shape, or form is so important. When you move your body, you get your endorphins flowing, your blood pumping, and your muscles working. This all works together to keep your body healthy, and in turn, can allow you to live a longer and healthier life.
It all starts with taking that first step. Start small and work up slowly and at a pace that feels comfortable for you.
If you’re struggling to incorporate movement into your daily routine, my best tip is to start with going for a walk just 1 day a week. For example, go for a walk every Tuesday at a certain time. Protect that time like it is a dentist appointment. You make it and you move other things around to accommodate it.
Once you’re used to holding that one day a week spot for movement, work your way up from there until you’re excited to get out and move your body every day. If daily goals feel too overwhelming, striving for 150 minutes a week of moderate-intensity physical activity can lower your risk of premature death, stroke, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, depression, coronary heart disease and Dementia.
Ramping that up to the next level, people who were able to incorporate 300 minutes per week further lowers the risk of heart disease and diabetes, but they also reduced the risk of colon cancer, breast cancer and prevented unhealthy weight gain.
